Lately, it is very common for people to buy vehicles that use fuel more efficiently than traditional gasoline-powered options. Featuring its capability to get up to speeds of 60 mph on city streets and nearly 70 mph with freeway driving, the Honda Insight hybrid is considered to be the most highly efficient car on the road. The Insight was built to use low resistance tires to make the most out of the power of the mix of electric motor and 1.0 gas engine. The Insight has not been a good choice for everyone though resulting from limited seating space and other stylistic quirks.
At least the most beneficial mid-sized car, the Toyota Prius hybrid, is big enough to hold up to five people. The Prius runs on the combination of gasoline engine and electric motor to generate 110 HP enabling it to reach 51 mpg while driving in the city and 48 mpg on the open road. The advanced design of the Prius permits it to be a bigger vehicle than the Insight. The Honda Civic hybrid is the cheapest hybrid in North America, as per its reputation, and it is the most efficient small car with 49 mpg in the city and 51 mpg on the highway. Because of its advancement over the traditional Civic design and output of 110 HP, the Civic hybrid is an extreme competitor in its class.
With regards to efficient subcompact cars, the Volkswagen Beetle diesel is number one in this particular category. Its own 177 lb-foot torque assists to beat a 100 HP that seems to not be very powerful. A highly efficient station wagon was created by the merged strengths of Pontiac and Toyota and was able to reach 30 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the freeway. Toyota and General Motors had a joint venture in making the Pontiac Vibe and the Toyota Matrix. Both designs have Toyota engines along with General Motors design. The Matrix and Vibe possess efficiency, elegance and smoothness, but they are certainly not going to win any street race with their 1.8L 4 cylinder engine, that produces 126 HP.
The number one choice in larger vehicles is the Hyundai Sonata that gets 24 mpg on city streets and 34 mpg on the freeway. Thanks to the volume of other top notch competing cars, it was totally unexpected. It features a capable, sensitive 2.4 L 4 cylinder engine. Its suspension won’t manipulate as well due to its softness and concentration on being comfortable. Although it won’t be able to compare to a BMW, it is very well built. Obviously the Hyundai has advanced enough where it is no longer a manufacturer that is second-rate.
There are lots of fuel-efficient cars being developed today, giving a much greater choice for the drivers. Because a lot more people want to conserve energy, you don’t have to be limited to only buying cars with a certain type of engine.
